"Weh!" = Swing me!

One for each hand

Back from a walk to the creek

Giving a tour of the new trees planted in the swampy area (where the willow tree used to be)

Take a wild guess whose craft this was...

An almost 40 year old tradition!

The treasured marble-roller
2 months apart, good buddies
Song book brought to gMa, clearly asking her to sing. H sang along...

Good News

Following international headlines and articles of interest is something I really enjoy. While the world scene has been grim in the last month, I also found some encouraging and inspiring articles, which I thought I might share:

A  story about stranded paraolympians and spontaneous hospitality. The 2012 Paraolympic Games are now in progress in the Olympic stadium in London. (Here's a page all Paraolympic news http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/paralympics-2012)

Could our education system try this? Hurrah for experiential learning:

An amazing public health success
This story had me shouting because it demonstrates what community health work can do.
You've heard of Small Pox and its eradication? Well Guinea Worm is gross, painful, and debilitating and it's about to be 2nd disease in world history to be eradicated ... brought about by the work of community health workers

Tassel

Last Friday, somewhere in cyberworld, somebody moved my tassel and that's the end of grad school.

I just looked up tassel in the dictionary ('higher education' does not include Spelling) and here's what it says "A tuft of loosely hanging threads, cords, or other material, knotted at one end and attached for decoration..."

I certainly did not pursue that for decoration, but the hanging threads with a knot at one end does fit in some ways. It was a blessing and a privilege to study and develop in the realm of nursing that I love- public and community health. We shall see where this tassel leads.

My dear family took the chance to celebrate on that very day with a surprise location for dinner, a short jaunt to the park, and a skip with my niece around the lake to jiggle the burgers and ice cream inside. It was fun!

To celebrate or mark milestones with family is such a blessing. Thank you!!

Rain Dance

I couldn't help it and no one was here to see me.

Maybe it was because a textbook thunderstorm rolled in and started cooling the tin box we live in and drenching the thirsty garden.

Maybe it was because all my school deadlines are over now- no more projects, no more university bills and I get to play with my new 'tool' set!

Or perhaps it was because I just ate half a cantaloupe.

After a juicy slice of tomato. and another peach.

I actually squealed at the baby stripey zucchini pushing out under those canopy leaves in the rain.

And I'm looking forward to this new month in so many ways.

For sure that calls for a rain dance!

Traditionally, a rain dance may have been to coax hydration from heaven, but I find that it rather springs out of me in response :)

Two

We decided to watch our progress through the years by the crinkle lines by our eyes (which we call 'laugh lines'). So for this 2nd anniversary of our marriage, I thought I'd take a look back through and see how we've changed.

Have we aged at all? Hmmm. My Mom told me sometime in the last year that I have finally begun to look my age. I took that as a compliment. But most people still guess that I'm in my mid to late 20's. Anyway, who cares about our photos- I really care about how my heart ages. I'm happy that it's growing in its identity as a child of God.

HEY! Where'd the time go?!

One More Day

This is the view beyond my computer screen today as I finish up my last project for the semester. I have one more day.
I'm having the typical internal crisis of have I learned anything? Do I have anything to show for this? Why am I such a slow writer?

After a week's break, the summer session shall ensue with an internship and an online class,  a manageable way to finish out the program. July 31st I'm finished!

Looking northwest on a windy day.

Yesterday our online courses met and a lunch is included where we can finally chat with each other live!
Here are three of the professors I've worked with the most closely through my grant job and my studies. The middle one is retiring.

My two bosses for the grant job.

A room-full of nurses.
